Milton is twenty-three years old and lives in the south of Bogotá, in the neighborhood of Altos de Cazucá in Soacha, one of the most dangerous areas in Colombia. There, to be young increases the risk of being murdered by paramilitary groups in their so-called «social cleansings.» For the youth of Cazucá, to be part of a gang, to smoke marijuana on a street corner, to play video games, to possess compromising information, and sometimes even to go out at night or to be Afro-Colombian are reasons enough to be put on the macabre list; to be on the list is to be sentenced to death. From the years 2002 to 2007, various NGOs reported that over one thousand youth were murdered and approximately six hundred disappeared in the neighborhoods of Altos de Cazucá and Ciudad Bolivar.
Milton has left behind his days as a gang member and he now fights to move forward with his life and achieve his primary goal: to ensure that the youth of Cazucá have a future and that their names are kept off the «lists.»

The Filming of «Milton, el Nieto de la Abuela»
Filming in Altos de Cazucá was not easy, for its streets are controlled by paramilitaries and the area is considered extremely dangerous. The opportunity to visit the neighborhood with Milton Garzón, known in the neighborhood for his life change, and at times with Dario Bejarano, a member of the NGO Fusion Colombia who moved to the neighborhood five years ago to help the youth, were fundamental elements in making the documentary a reality. Nonetheless, it was often impossible to film outside.
